Hi guys. I did a benchmark test in GTA 4 and i tried all settings from low to highest possible and my CPU usage was always on 83%.. Well see for yourself. Here are the results:
Statistics
Average FPS: 32.35
Duration: 37.87 sec
CPU Usage: 83%
System memory usage: 70%
Video memory usage: 97%

Graphics Settings
Video Mode: 1920 x 1080 (60 Hz)
Texture Quality: High
Texture Filter Quality: Highest
View Distance: 32
Detail Distance: 70

Hardware
Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate
Service Pack 1
Video Adapter: AMD Radeon HD 6800 Series
Video Driver version: 8.17.10.1136
Audio Adapter: Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio)
AMD Athlon(tm) II X3 445 Processor

I don't need to tell you the results with lower settings because they are the same. Why can't my CPU be used more than 83%

Run a benchmark like 3DMark and see what happens.

Is it exactly 83% or just that was the max? That's 5/6th, which sounds like the OS or game may be reserving half a core. Or the game may be bandwidth bound and its just a coincidence.

Well yes it stays the same. Although when i overclocked the CPU from 3.1 to 3.3 ghz the CPU usage was 90% and i got 10 more fps

Your CPU usage is absolutely fine. Maxing out your CPU would/might cause some lags in the game to be honest.

Here are my CPU usage on some recent titles -

BF3 Campaign - 60%-75%

BF3 Multiplayer - 75%-87%

Blacklight Retribution - 50%-76%

Dirt3 - 65%-85%

These games are all running on a Phenom II X4 955 @ 3.8Ghz paired with a GTX560 Ti.

So i shouldn't be worried about the usage then? How is my GPU usage 100% if my CPU is bottlenecking it?

Most games nowadays utilize more of your GPU than your CPU.

There are certain exceptions such as Civilization V, where it uses around 80%-90% of my CPU and only 60% of my GPU.

All those titles I had listed had my GPU usage at 99%, where my CPU was jumping around 65%-85%.

But you have a way better CPU than me. And i can see the bottleneck because i did a small overclock after which i gained 10 more fps. I'm planing to buy a 965 BE :D

  yes I guess that's worth pointing out as well. You will see much better performance after your upgrade! :)

Also on a side note, I'm not too sure which GPU you're running (6850/6870) but my brother has a 6870 paired with an X4 955 @ 4Ghz, so you'll absolutely smoke any game at decent settings after your upgrade ;)

Its a 6850 :D  I don't know much about the 6870 all i know is that its equal to a GTX 560 at stock settings, like the 6850 is equal to a GTX 460 although the 6850 is slightly better on higher resolutions and the GTX 560 can OC far better than the 6870 but the 6870 crossfire can smoke 560 SLI and even take on the 560ti SLI if i'm correct

GTA IV is CPU hog and it's poorly optimized...

My Athlon II X2 245 is around 90% of CPU usage. Any Settings.

Better get a Quad Core Cpu like Phenom II X4 for this game.
