Hi!

So here is the deal, I fried my 9800gt and Im in need of a new GPU. I'm still not sure about wich to buy. I can spend around 350 dlls and was thinking of a 6970 but that might be overkill.

The idea is to be able to play skyrim, and probably BF3,on max settings if possible, I will also do graphic design and some 3d modeling but I guess a GPU that can handle BF3 can do pretty mucho all the others. I have a 1650x1050 display but Im planning on getting a bigger one soon).

the rest of my specs are:

gigabyte ma790fxt-ud5p motherboard
AMD phenom2 x4 @ 3.4
4gb ram @ 1300
Thermaltake Purepower 600w PSU

Thanks in advance!!

you could go for the 6970 but I would think you might end up experiencing some bottlenecks because of your cpu so I recommend double check the benchmarks for your particular cpu on it

the 6970 should be good but might be overkill. I'd suggest a 6950 or wait till the 78XX to launch.

As for cpu bottleneck, you should be fine with only a few rare exceptions.

1680x1050?
I play at that resolution and I have a GTX 460 SLI (Performance should be between GTX 480 ~ GTX 580). And I don't think it's overkill.
I'm sure HD6970 would be an awesome buy, specially if OP upgrade that monitor later

you can basically max all games with a 6870 at 1680x1050 except for bf3 and metro2033.

Thank you guys! I think Im going to wait for the new cards to be avilable, cause that would make the prices of the 6970 drop right? It looks that my CPU can handle that card and I guess it would make my system a little more future proof

Thanks again!

Dare I go against the tide and recommend an Nvidia when everyone is going with the ATIs, but I'm really digging the Zotac 550 TI Amp! edition. I snagged out from Tigerdirect for about 160 and some change.
