So my issue is I have recently got myself a soundboard (mixer) and have been setting up my computer for music recording. Unfortunatly I am also an avid gamer. The problem i encounter is recording soundcards are not set up for gaming and unable to support 5.1 surround and such and also lack the 3.5mm jacks to hook up the speakers and subs and such. At the same time a gaming card doesent have the inputs for proper recording. I've talked to some people on both sides of the spectrum and both say it cant really be done.

The Soundboard i have is a beringer SX2442FX It uses 1/4 inch jacks out or XLR out to the computer. Is there anyway for me to be able to set up recording without sacrificing my gaming experience?

Would a usb audio interface do the trick? Does usb create lag in recording?

Specs if it matters.

AMD Phenom II X6 1090T
GA-890GPA-UD3H
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580

Thanks for any help in advance

Well, you could use separate soundcards; one for gaming (output) and one for recording (input).
