I have a dell xps 8300 and would like to buy a new gpu for skyrim and can play okay on medium but on high it stutters like crazy I currently have a gt545 ddr5 1 gb card I have been looking at a 570 I am aware that my power supply will need to be replaced. I want to know if this upgrade would help me get high or ultra high graphics at 40-50 fps. I have an i7 2600 3.4 ghz processor I believe. I do not even know if this processor is capable of what I want but would like advice before I go and spend 500 on a new gpu and psu and not have the wanted results any advice would be helpful.

I have the same CPU as you and a GTX570 and I can play Skyrim on ultra, but I have a 1440x900 screen. So for sure, your CPU will not bottleneck Skyrim on ultra.
Also I have to mention that I do get small sttutering near the highest mountain on the map where High Hrothgar is placed... still searching for the reason... all the other parts of the map it runs smoothly.

A 570 will allow you to run everything at ultra in skyrim, yes.

It is just a 460w just what came in the system I remember from the manual. I can not look right now I am at work. How much power does the gtx 570 need. I really want to get good graphics before the first skyrim dlc.

Minimum PSU for GTX570 is 550W with 35A on the 12V rails. For maximum OC : 750W with 60A on the 12V rails.

I recommend a Modular 650 or 550 watt psu, obviously your not running SLI, I am supprised no one had told him to get one of them Blue PCB 6850s that everyone is running around recommending....Well when i was running one 560 ti i could play the game on high and maintain good frames (max:60 min:39. I run 560 ti SLI now and always stays above 45. Levels at 60 pretty much the entire time i play. the only time it goes down is when i enter a building. This is with the newest patch as well
