A cellphone keypad you can actually use to type messages

Not quite two years ago, we reported about an engineer's idea to reorganize the keypad matrix of flip-phones to accelerate the typing-speed of text messages. Now, the keypad has reached prototype status and we had a chance to play with a first version of the "Delta II." The functionality is impressive. What's now missing is an actual phone that makes use of the invention. Read more

Before the change to Cingular people could send me a Text Message from
their computer EMail by sending an EMail message to (Ten Dig. phone No
followed by @mobile.att.net.). This was completely free as long as I did
not reply on my cell phone. This no longer works when I try to send myself
a text message. Is there a new and different EMail address for Cingular?

I'm in the process of switching to Cingular. I'm on a family share plan
with a friend. He's got his phone already but mine keeps getting delayed
(Verizon keeps saying that my phone is "active" but it's been off for
over a month waiting on this transition!).

In the meantime, my friend sent me a txt message to my email address. It
was cellphonenumber@mobile.mycingular.com ... If you login to your
account on the Cingular website, you can go to the text messaging
section. From there you can even sign up for a free nickname for your
phone. Then it would be nickname@mobile.mycingular.com. The same website
says that it's supposed to be cellphonenumber@cingularme.com (or
nickname@cingularme.com) but since my friend has the wireless Internet
service, the cingularme seems to go to his email rather than txting him.

Thank you. The Mmode address did work. The TM came through to my cell
phone in seconds after I send it. The addresses given in the previous
reply did not work.

Bob,

The mycingular and cingularme addresses only work for legacy cingular
customers. the mmode address is for former ATT Wireless customers because
Cingular was required to stop using the ATT Wireless name a few months ago.

Perhaps he hasn't configured his account properly.
