450w PSU for 6770

I was just wondering if a 80+ Bronze 450w PSU would be sufficient enough to run a 6770 in a budget gaming computer?

Currently looking at the COOLER MASTER GX 450W

  1. It would but I would look for a Antec, Corsair, Seasonic and XFX brand PSU. The one you listed is on the line of good and bad.
  2. A good 450w power supply should be plenty for a 6770 as long as the brand is good, as DM186 said.
  3. If you look on this list you will see what I am talking about. Your PSU you listed is on the tier 3.

Now here is a PSU that would be better. The 450w is more than enough to power the 6770 but what brand matters.

  4. what about this one? Antec High Current Gamer Series HCG-400 400W

Its a tier 2 and has much better reviews than the the XFX you recomended. But its a 400w, is that still enough to run it?

Yes it is according to AMD the min requirment PSU is a 400w That is just for them to play it safe when in some cases a 300w could run the card but don't go that route.

Now this is food for thought if in the fucture you want to upgrade to even a bigger card then maybe a 500w might be a better deal. Here are two PSU's that are good.

  6. I think the green antec would probably be better since my case is a top mount.
  7. Ya that would be a good choice. Just don't make a mistake like I did and get this PSU that I have now I can't OC to much because I don't trust it to preform like a good PSU should. I didn't know about Tom's hardwear back then or other wise I would have gone another direction.
  8. lol dont expect to over clock much on a Intel Pentium G620
  9. You'll be fine.

Although it would be nice to have some more headroom. So a 500w would be ideal.
