What do you mean type?
There are AMD and Intel (the 2 main CPU manufacturers)
There are single cores, dual cores, tri cores, quad cores, hex cores, octa core.etc
There are hyperthreaded CPUs (2 workload threads put on one core to improve multitheaded performance).
There are APUs (CPU and GPU on one chip).

The last question depends on what CPUs you want to compare, AMD are good for budget systems.
Intel will have better performance than most AMD chips (most newer ones) but are more expensive most of the time...

Simply said.

Price.

Speed.

And cores.

The newer ones are faster than the old one.

Than the brands. Intel and AMD.

Intel is faster and more expensive. AMD is cheaper, but slower.

And compatibility.
