Clicking from PSU?

Hi All,

I've got a clicking noise (fairly rapid) coming from what I think is the PSU--can't be certain on that though.

The PSU is probably past warranty--any suggestions on what to try? I imagine it could be something touching the fan, but it's odd that it comes and goes--i.e. off for a couple minutes, then back again for 30 seconds or so, and repeat

Thanks for your help!

It's the fan, if it comes and goes then its probably because it's speeding up when it gets hotter causing it to vibrate more.

I just checked it actually has warranty for another couple months I think

should I pull it out and try to open it up? or send it off?

Sometimes the hard drives can make a clicking sound , so if you can't really determine from where the sound is coming from then it could be the HD.
The fan on the psu would not be making a rapid clicking sound , but id cold be a stuck relay in the power supply or some other part. I would definetly keep an eye on that psu if it's making noises and if you can determine it's coming from the HD them that's normal for a HD.

yeah that's a tricky one, cause I can't wiggle things around and get it to stop, it seems. My warranty on the PSU is up September 1, not sure about the HD.

I also don't want to be without my PSU for however long that takes Antec!

If you open the psu up then you void the warranty and they can tell because they usually have a sticker on the side that opens that will go accross the edge and tear when opened or they will have a screw covered by a sticker so that if you take it off to get at the screw they can tell also. The best option at this point is to try and pinpoint the clicking sound so you can b sure and then call the tech support for options.
Here is something that you can try and that is to remove the side panel and with a rolled up sheet of paper and one end at your ear take the other end and see if you can isolate the sound by moving the other end around the inside of the case. It may be aukward but unless you have a funnel of some size to use then you have to use a makeshift funnel. This is just a way to try and pinpoint the location of the clicking sound and if you can come up with another way go for it.
