Detecting wrong graphics card

Nope. All my games still run the same.

have you used an nVidia card followed by AMD card on the same system?
its possible you can have the old video card drivers still on the OS

How the hell could this happen? what's your total system specs and the OS you're running? Do you have any nVidia cards attached to your system such as a dedicated card for Physx?

i think you don't have to think too much about it if your computer performing as it should be. either there was some kind of error for the software or it does not have new database for your gpu which leads to your card was detected as something else

I don't have any kind of nvidia anything linked to any of my hardware. My main specs are,

corei7 2600k @4.4
Radeon 6970
gigabyte mobo
8gb ram
875 psu

Both Skyrim and Blizzard games detect my card to be a Nvidia geforce 8800 -_-

You haven't specifically mentioned it so I need to ask. Have you installed catalyst? If yes, what version?
