i am going to buy a used alienware m15x and was thinking the currant video card(ATI 5730) might be too slow. or is the currant video good enough for modern(2012 and above)? i am planing on keeping this laptop for a while after i buy it(maybe for 5 or more years) and i would rather upgrade now rather then later so is the gtx 560 ti compatible or is the currant video card good enough to keep for a while?

Laptop? Can't upgrade the graphics in it.

You can't really use a desktop graphics card in the laptop, but you may be able to use vidock to connect that graphics card to your laptop. However, it will probably get bottlenecked.

Here is someone's experience with using ViDock, just scroll down to the 560 TI part ->

Really only a few high end gaming laptops are designed to have upgradeable graphics and that is not one of them.

well then is the graphics card that comes with it (ATI 5730) good?

That is about comparable to a 5570 GDDR3, so not it is not very good.
The 560 Ti ranks 8 tiers higher.
