IDE RAID

I know IDE, but just heard about IDE RAID. Please someone explain it to me.

Also, should I go stick with IDE or go to SCSI hard drives? How much is a good SCSI controller (it's PCI right?)? Tell me a good SCSI controller also! Does 1 controller only supports 1 device? Can I have more than 1 controller?

PS : Hoe do I set the hard disk up (SCSI) on my BIOS? I only see it when choosing boot sequence.

Take a look at <A HREF="http://www.storagereview.com" target="_new">storagereview.com</A>

They have a RAID FAQ, and recent reviews of some IDE RAID solutions. They also have a nice database set up to compare various benchmarks on lots of different drives & controllers.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice.
In practice, there is.

The previous links should explain RAID to you pretty well. Whether you should stick with IDE or SCSI is hard to say. It depends on a few main factors.
1. What are you using the system for?
2. How much storage do you need?
3. (the biggest factor) How much money do you have to spend?

Presonally I would stick with an IDE RAID for these reasons. In RAID 0 you could have one (2 40 gig hds 7200 rpms) 80 gig 14,400 RPM harddrive for around $300 (plus cost of RAID on mother board or RAID card) with scsi you are going to be paying out the @ss for even a 20 gig drive. IDE is pretty fast too, I wont lie scsi does fly, but ide is not that far behind. I don't really see what a home user's needs would be that would warrant paying so much $$ for so little a speed increase.
