That's a HUGE budget. Suggest you find the most difficult piece of software you run, maybe the 3D Modeling (sketchup), and see what the dream system is to run it.

IF your budget was only 1000-1500 people would be pointing you to i5-2500 builds with two disks in raid 0 and a video card known to accelerate your 3D software. (And getting you an external drive as a backup solution in case a system drive fails). But for $3000.... maybe a server build with redundant power and cooling, ECC memory, etc.

If you use any other programs where a pro gpu is used do so tell us because those change a huge part of your budget.

but for now I do say Intel i7 2600k for a cpu and the best z68 asus mobo (if your getting in a few weeks how about IVY for that kind of work you need the extra juice you can get)

You need to start with the video card.
I see no indication of software that would benefit from any particular video card such as CUDA, OpenCL, DirectCompute support.

Unless you are planning to play video games you should either use the integrated graphics or an HD6450 1GB fanless card ($40). I mention the HD6450 because it can support two monitors (DVI->DVI and HDMI->DVI. *Note the HDMI->DVI is just for the DVI video, not audio so it's the same as a regular DVI output).

My advice would be to spend roughly $1000 on an Ivy Bridge motherboard and CPU.

I'll help more if you can confirm the video card requirements etc.
