Hi Everyone, I'm wondering what the real difference/improvement there is from running two 1GB cards over a single 2GB card- eg:2x 6870 (950Mhz) over a single 6970 (920Mhz). With the prices as they are here in Australia it is only $26 more expensive to buy the 2x 6870.
I'm about to upgrade my gaming system & am wondering what the advantages are. I would also have to upgrade my current PSU from Antec True Power 650w aswell (probably an extra $155). What sort of increase could I expect with the 2 cards over the single.

My planned system is:
Asus P8Z68-V Pro/Gen3
i5 2500K
G.Skill- Ripjaws X F3-12800 CL8D (2x4Gb)
Antec HCG 900W
Single 6970 or 2x 6870
CoolMaster HAF X

In terms of FPS the 2 cards will be much better but there are issues with crossfire as mentioned like, some games don't support it an release, heat and power are high and most of all microstutter. As for the ram 2 x 1Gb cards still only have 1gb while a 2Gb card has use of twice as much memory which is better at high resolutions, so you may find 1 2gb card performs bewtter on multiple monitors but at 1920 x 1080 1gb is all you need.

From what i've heard on Toms, 6870s don't crossfire too well, plus there are driver issues when cross firing. If i were you, i'd get the 6970. Save yourself $26 too!
