Hey, I got this build from here but was just checking if this is the best build I can get. My budget is $2000. I need everything except a monitor. I'm going to use it most for gaming, then movies, then surfing the net. My requirements are an Intel motherboard, Intel processor and an NVidia graphics card. Might only overclock processor.I’ll be playing on 1900x1080. Would definitely want it to play games on ultra-graphics for at least another year and want it to be reasonably quiet and cool. Preferred site:newegg.com or amazon.com. Also just a small side question, I know games on PC can be played with ps3/Xbox controllers, is this a good way of gaming especially for fps games? Buying end of May.
So far the setup:
Muskin Enhanced Deluxe 240GB – SSD (not absolutely necessary, you can add something better instead)

You know ivybridge launches in 2 weeks right? Ive been seeing a lot of problems with the Mushkins but could be mistaken. The power supply is serious overkill unless you want 3 way sli :p

everything is great.mushkin chronos 'deluxe' SSDs are highly rated drives.i will agree on changing the psu if anyone finds me same(or better)features for same(or less price) :p  .it's an absolute steal at $130.IB isn't a big improvement over SB,not worth IMO.but if you want then hold it for two weeks, and most likely you will suffer lack of stock.

yes I have heard. Planning on getting probably the Intel 3750 one but need to hear the reviews first :)  and yeah I figured that would be a problem...see to that later then. Ok ill definately change the power supply.

that psu is great.no need to change.

well, there is some need actually. a 950w psu is going to run less efficiently for his system than a 750w would. not to mention you can find quality 750w psus for less.

run less efficiently???how???

a high wattage psu uses more power at the wall to run less watts than a psu designed to run less watts

toms did an article about it quite awhile ago. its pretty common knowledge around here

5 years?! thats hard to imagine as a main rig, being good until 2017 (how futuristic does that date sound?)

nice system though. really wouldnt last much longer than a midgrade system though

The 680 is sold out everywhere, and may still be hard to get by the end of may. And Yes Those Razer Keyboard and Mice will last forever and are really nice. he still has $300 left over for a nice monitor if he wants one or a bigger SSD or something.

soldout??i agree but this does not means to 'downgrade' to an outdated card.and nothing lasts forever.it's an absolute waste to spend so much when you can get the work done with less.

He wanted us to improve his build? His budget is $2000 and my build still didnt hit that. The GTX 580 isnt outdated, considering the new Architecture is only on the GTX 680 and possibly only one or two more cards, the rest of the 6xx series is Fermi. Fermis great and that GTX 580 is a BEAST. I am still on a GTX 470 and it runs everything on ultra 60fps, everything i Throw at it. So the GTX 580 will be fine. Plus the GTX 680 costs more than what I put.

i know the power of gtx 580 but it has many disadvantages too.heat and power are major issues.680 is definitely better choice.
and for your 470,go troll some where else.it cannot run everything you throw at it with '60 fps on ultra'.

a gtx470 can actually run any games you trow at it at 60fps max or avg depending on which game,

specially if you play on 800x600 resolution

but it should still be able to play most games on high at 30fps avg or something

PSU's typically don't hit max efficiency until they are over 50-70% utilized. This PSU, although not all that great(see review), doesn't suffer that badly at lower voltages. This build will be in 400-450watt range for max power draw(thats with a gtx 580 with the newer 680 the power draw would be closer to 360-400 watts) so a 960watt PSU is serious overkill. Plus there are better 550-750watt PSU's in this $150 price range.

If there are zero plans to SLI then a very high quality 550 watt PSU would be fine. HardOCP and johnyguru give the Kingwin very high marks. The fan pretty much never spins up so its dead silent under normal loads.

If you plan to SLI a 750watt PSU would be fine as well:

Hehe cute but the OP said 1900x1080 resolution and has a budget of $2,000. OP, just hang out 1 more week and get the gtx 680. I say one week because last few launches it took Nvidia two weeks to get supply after initial semi-paper launch.

My advice is hang out for 1-3 weeks, your so close to new products coming out and 2K budget you don't have to cut corners.

Get a 3750k instead of the 2500k once they release in a couple weeks. Its compatible with your motherboard you choose which is a fine motherboard.

Get a GTX 680 GPU once you see it in the wild(Love the cooling solution of the jetstream) http://www.guru3d.com/news/palit-geforce-gtx-680-jetstr...

Get a KINGWIN LZP-550 550W , very efficient and in this build the fan would almost never come on(totally silent). http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
