Are you still on standard time? Most of the country switched to
daylight savings time a while back.

I live outside of Chicago, Illinois -- that should be specific enough
for your needs.

so...who uses xnews anymore "arcade master"? especially for text! The
last time I stopped using that program was when attempting to download a
4 million headers and it threw up 9/10 times. ;p
if you need a good binary program, newsleecher is 10x better, if you
need a test reader, xnews is entirely over doing it.

Eh? It's GREAT for text. and is still VASTLY used. Have a look at
news.software.readers

The only text group I know of with that many headers is control.cancel,
if thats what you enjoy reading, rock on.
If your Binary needs are huge, Xnews is probably not for you, but for
my needs (MAME ROMS and the occasional nekkid chick) Xnews is a fine
binary reader.

Not at all. in fact Xnews is one of the best Text readers around, but
FWIW, I only use Xnews from the office, I am Linux/slrn user by
default.
Your client of choice also has a very annoying bug that for some reason
has gone unresolved for quite some time. It loves inserting blank
lines.

no thanks, xnews is antiquated. Perhaps the only reason its still used
is cuz its free.

wasn't referring to text. You do know the main functionality of that
program is for binary groups right?

ok, but so is OE is somebody is simply checking text groups. I've just
never heard of anyone using xnews for anything but binary.

BINARY! Are you smoking weed? I used to use xnews, newsleecher is like
the much needed update.

I don't see any blank lines, at least none that I didnt insert by
hitting the return key. Perhaps it's a bug in your archaic Xnews

Aniquated? It has been updated at least 2x this year. Its still
popular because its excellent.

I dont know where you get that from but it is absolutely false. It is
for Light binary use and text use.

Most people DONT use it for large binary use becuase it has memory
issues for large groups which you already alluded too.

I dont get what you are trying to say here. I said multiple times
that Xnews is a good LIGHT use binary reader and an excellent full
featured text reader. I would say if I wasnt dealing with a group
with say over 250,000 headers I have no use for any other binary
reader as Xnews has no problems with groups of that size and FWIW,
who needs to load all 1,000,000 headers at once?

Have a look at the above. First one was taken from your first post,
second from your reply. It is a well known bug that is still in need of
repair.

So if everyone jumped off a bridge, youd follow (well we can all hope)
A majority of users does not mean its a good or even useable program.
It has so many unrepaired bugs you'd think MS had actually abandoned
the product.

Her is the fix:
It just needs a few lines to get rid of that blank lines. If you have a
user.js underneath your profile, add
user_pref("mailnews.send_plaintext_flowed", false);
user_pref("mail.quoted_graphical", false);
user_pref("mail.quoteasblock", false);
user_pref("mailnews.display.disable_format_flowed_support", false);
user_pref("mail.display_struct", true);
user_pref("mail.send_struct", false);

light use and binary shouldn't be used in the same sentence. The memory
leaks are atrocious.
and an excellent full

full featured text reader? That's analogous to a high performance,
luxury Kia. The program is used primarily for binary, plain and simple
and it can't handle the burden. Why don you start looking at everyone's
post here and report back with your findings. Hardly anyone is using Xnews.
I would say if I wasnt dealing with a group

everyone that is downloading binary content schmucko. What if you choose
to download 1,000,000 instead of all your headers and part of the file
you're looking for is on 1,000,250 location?
