CPU Coolers?

Hello,
I just decided that I wanted something beyond a stock cooler. I was wanting a cooler that can keep my CPU cool whenever I OC it. I've seen the Coolermaster HYPER 212 for non-water cooling. But for water cooling I saw the ThermalTake Water 2.0. I wanted to know which one to use or if there's a better one in the ThermalTake's price range. Willing to spen $60 for decent OCing.
Specs:
CPU: FX-4100
MOBO: ASUS M5A97
GPU: EVGA GTX 560 1GB
RAM: Crucial Ballistix 8GB(2x4)@1333MHz
Case: Coolermaster Elite 311
HDD: Western Digital Cavier 250GB(getting a 500 later down the road)
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
Optical: Some LG thing.
I want my FX to be able to reach 3.9 or 4.0GHz.

  1. You should be able to get 4 GHz with the Hyper 212 EVO no problem. You don't need water cooling. Not that it's a bad thing, mind you, it's just not necessary.
  2. Yeah I read great reviews too. It's $60 on TigerDirect. I just don't know if it will fit in a mid-tower case.
  3. Well, if it's possible to pass 4 that would be great! Does the 212 fit in a mid-tower?

it should fit as long as you have a 120mm exhaust

realize though you can get the 212+ for $20 after rebate and it offers cooling similar (a little warmer) to the thermaltake 2.0
  5. It'll fit in most cases. The only time I've seen an EVO not fit is when the case had a thick side fan installed.
  6. I do have a 120mm exhaust fan. It was the one that came with the case though. I could unistall my front Rocketfish I added and switch it with the one that came with the case.
  7. an exhaust fan in the side of the case? Am I hearing that right?

That's a no, no. Side fans are supposed to be intake fans.
  8. i think he is talking about his rear exhaust fan, not his side fan
  9. Yeah I'm talking about rear not side. My case doesn't have side fans.

you will use the one that comes with the thermaltake water cooler if you decide to go in that direction
  11. Antec Kuhler 920 has been doing wonders for me.Overclocked my fx 6100 to 4.6ghz at 1.45 volts and it never gets above 55 on the cores while gaming or under extreme load :) plus the option to manualy controll the fan speed and also the color of the RGB LED

  12. I'm sorry EchoOne but that's out of my budget just to do a bit of OCing. I'm leaning toward the 212.

  14. Does the 212 come with thermal paste already on it? Or do I need to buy a little bootle?

  16. Thank you. And this is off topic but I had to replace my mobo and I took my CPU out and the heatsink/fan stayed together. I did the slowly twist thing and it worked. Now should I reapply new thermal paste? I'm running it with the old set it came with.
