I currently have this system -

Intel Core i5 2500K OC'd to 4.4GHz with Corsair H80 Water Cooler (I probably could go higher, but I'm slightly paranoid)

ASUS Sabertooth Motherboard, Socket LGA 1155, P67 Chipset.

16GB G.Skill RipjawsX DDR3-1866

XFX Radeon HD 6970 2GB OC'd to 1GHz Core Clock, 1450MHz Memory.

2X 300GB WD Velociraptors in RAID 0

1TB WD Black HDD

850W Cooler Master Silent Pro

Thermaltake Armor V.3 (I'll be upgrading to a XIGMATEK Elysium later on. I've seen it in my local PC shop and read reviews. The thing is huge and has great airflow.)

And my friend keeps insisting that I upgrade to an i7 2600K, i7 2700, or even i7 3770K. I keep telling him that for gaming, my i5 is plenty, but he insist's that in BF3 and other games I'll get better framerates due to the HT? Is he even close to right?
