Hello,
I want to make good use of my small budget but I don't know where to put it in. Here's my specs in summary:
HP Pavilion Premade
Vista 32-bit
AMD Phenom 9500 Quadcore ~2.2GHz
3070MB Ram
Nvidia Geforce 210 (my old 8500 went toast so I replaced it with this)
250w or so PSU (I forgot)

I've been thinking about swapping my GPU into a 6670 or 6770 and upping my PSU too. Is this a smart move? I don't play hardcore games such as Skyrim or BF3 (wouldn't mind playing them though) but I do play alot of League of Legends and Dota 2. I want to get better performance on games like these. Also note, I only have a screen with a 1680x1050 resolution and that I am Canadian(different pricing?).

Link me to exact models that you guys recommend. To those who are patient enough to read this, thank you!

Getting a 6770 would be an excellent upgrade. I run two 5770's in crossfire (5770's are the same model, just older firmware), and I love them! Can run BF3 on Full Ultra settings no problem, even while recording at 1920x1080. A PSU upgrade to maybe 500W~ may be worth it too, even if it's not completely necessary it'd provide small performance increase/added stability/more futureproof.

Will my CPU or MOBO bottleneck the 6770? ):

No your CPU won't bottleneck (don't know about your motherboard since you didn't post its type), but there is no way that you can run an 6770 with only 250W...

You will need at least an good quality 400W PSU...

Hope it helps! :)

Will this fair well with the 6670?

That's overkill for an 6670, but more than enough for a 6770.

You can also wait for the 7770 to be released, it offers 70% more performance with 50% less power consumption.

Oops gosh, I meant "enough for a 6770" and when will the 7770 come out? I don't see it in Canada Newegg.

I live in Canada and I am looking to buy the 7770 too. :)

The 7770 will probably be released in the late-February or in March. The release in Canada should come 4-7 days after USA.
And damn it, I bet that Quebec (The province) is going to do some other kind of price-augmenting shenanigans... Everything costs more in Quebec than any other province in Canada... :fou:

Thank you to ONLYUSEmeISAAC, bloc97 and megagabobe1 for contributing to this thread! Thanks for taking some time and helping me.

I will now save up more money and wait for the 7700. I'll purchase it with the 430w Corsair, can't wait to get this HP premade piece of poop to get upgraded.

Mods can now close this! Thanks forum!

CX430 it is! Hopefully Canada won't be hurt by the 7700 price difference!

barf, i knew i should have waited for the release of 7770, :( i just bought an ASUS EAH6770 last week its been great but before i bought it i have researched and read a variety of mixed good and bad reviews about the thing but more of the good though then i came across a site where a lot of people were very pleased about it :D then that's when i was given the go-signal but nonetheless the card is cool and good, but i had to move the system fan down to face it inside the tower because it was really really warm, but still i don't think they'd sell the 7770 at the same price and when it gets released i think it won't be available from where I am until a few months :(
