System Rebuild

I am about to rebuild my system and have a new processor, mobo and graphics card picked out. I don't really know how to check if my current power supply I am using will be compatible.

These are my new parts:

ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

XFX HD-679X-ZRFC Radeon HD 6790 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card

Intel Core i5-2500K Sandy Bridge 3.3GHz (3.7GHz Turbo Boost) LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 3000 BX80623I52500K

and this is my old power supply I am hoping to continue using:

CORSAIR Builder Series CX430 CMPSU-430CX 430W ATX12V Active PFC Power Supply

Thanks again in advanced for any help!

You will need a more powerful PSU.

A 6970 needs about 17 amps, peaking to 21 amps under load. Your CPU will need about 10 amps. And that doesn't include the rest of your system.

A CX430, while a pretty good power supply, only has a 28 amp 12 volt rail.

I would recommend something like an XFX 550 watt PSU:
a little pricey for a 550, but a great power supply and built by Seasonic.

    Or one of these:
    Corsair CX600

But my first choice would be the XFX.
  2. system requirements for that card are a 500 watt psu with 2 power plugs
  3. Thank you. I'll take your advice and go with the XFX.

    Have a good day!
