Approximate Purchase Date: Before May 15th ;)

Budget Range: 400-500$ Before / After Rebates

System Usage: Gaming, surfing the internet

Parts Not Required: Keyboard, mouse, monitor, speakers, OS, case and HDD

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: I use Tigerdirect.com and Newegg.com

Country: US

Parts Preferences: AMD, ATI, MSI, Gigabyte.

Overclocking: Yes

SLI or Crossfire: No

Monitor Resolution: I'll be using a 1080p HD T.V. 'Sony Bravia 32i.n.'

Additional Comments: I have the part's already selected. I went for a Budget Gaming PC that can OC but remain cool and functional so I went with the AMD/ATI route for that Option. I've read all the reviews on the website's parts and found all of these parts would work for what I need (Diablo 3 and the next Sim City).
Any advice on compatibility issue's or anything would be great. Mother Board 'says' it can OC the CPU I picked out to a quad and same with the Video Card. Best to double check everything first :D . The Case I'll be using is a Micro ATX case from a E-Machines P4Dou computer. I'll also be using it's Samsung SATA 32xDvD Drive and a Samsung HDD 5200 RPM 300GB SATA 3.0GB. I tested the HD and DvDrive in this back up computer so they work :D.

List of Parts:

Noooo! Another innocent civilian has been corrupted by AMDs low prices!

I hate to break it to you, but AMD is a lot worse than Intel. Just check tomshardware's "Best Gaming CPUs for the Money"... Intel wins almost everywhere. Overclocking doesn't have much of a point if it's still going to perform worse than a stock Intel chip.

If you want to switch to Intel, just tell us and we'll set you up. However, I'm assuming you're going to be stubborn, and I see your point if you insist on overclocking a $400 build...

Now, why do you want one stick of 8GB when it's a lot cheaper to get two of 4GB? Also, I'd be wary of the PSU... no rating on it, and I don't know a lot about Thermaltake. I also thought you said you didn't need the OS.

Dont use a single RAM stick . Use a dual channel pair or you cut performance

2 x2 gig is plenty for gaming

Make sure the mb is AM3+ with a black socket

The thermaltake psu page says its active PFC . Its not , since it has the red voltage adjustment switch
This Cx 500 Corsair is only $40 after rebate

What you save on the psu you can spend on a proper AM3+ cpu
AMD FX-4100 Zambezi 3.6GHz $110

In Tomshardware comparison of the FX 4100 and the intel i3 2100 the FX matched the i3 everywhere except older games that cant multithread well . Once its Overclocked it should smash an i3 pretty much everywhere

A game is a 32 bit program , so it can only ever use about 3.2 gig of RAM at most . The Windows OS will use about 7-900 mb.

Game performance will not be reduced by using 2 x2 gig rather than 2 x4 gig .
Some applications may show improvement with more than 4 gig . but not a game

Outlander... say you've got a game open. 3.2 gigs of RAM. OS takes up 900mb max,as well. So we're up to our limit. Uh-oh... I guess we can't have a browser window and/or antivirus open!

Also, can't 64 bit programs use more RAM? I genuinely don't know, though. I do know that I've seen loads over 4GB (6GB) when people have been running games with Windows 7 aero on, and also a browser or two.

If the Antec is good with good reviews, I'm all for buying it.

You are correct . If you were running a massive number of browser windows or other running processes then game performance could be affected .

But I havent met anyone who plays a quick level of crysis while they browse the web

Yes 2 x4 gig of RAM could be better . But for a budget build you'd always be better off using 2 x2 and spending the money you save on a better graphics card

Oh geez... I completely forgot this was a budget build.

Yeah, 4 gigs is enough for you.

Now, about the PSU. Antec Earthwatts doesn't ship with a power cable, so keep that in mind when you buy... I almost bought one, but I couldn't have plugged it in!

Thanks for the post's everyone.
So it look's like everything is fine but the PSU and the memory I'm assuming the CPU is good enough since only 2 others mentioned it with replacing it with a I3 or a AMD FX CPU.
I bought the OS, forgot to post that sorry :D

New PSU: Antec EarthWatts EA-500D Green 500W ATX12V v2.3 / EPS12V 80 PLUS BRONZE Certified Active PFC Power Supply

Memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-12800CL9D-4GBRL

CPU's: AMD Phenom II X2 560 Black Edition Callisto 3.3GHz Socket AM3 80W Dual-Core Desktop Processor HDZ560WFGMBOX

Or
AMD FX-4100 Zambezi 3.6GHz (3.8GHz Turbo) Socket AM3+ 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor FD4100WMGUSBX
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103996

Now I checked the MB and it says it's max memory type is 1333, so well it matter if I buy 1600 memory? Seems like it's just a bench mark for there MHZ, but I'm not sure.
I also checked the MB for the Black Socket and it has a black socket on it. The AM3 Socket for the CPU it self is Black is what I'm assuming you meant.

I don't care if it's a AMD or Intel CPU. I was looking for something that whould handle and meet the requiraments for future game's such as the next Sim City. I went with this AMD CPU because on the bench marks on Quad it matched the I3 and some I5's. Intel would load everything up faster for me, but would and may over heat the system 1 year later due to the raw performance ;) . From those 2 what would truly be better? Prbly the FX one huh. for 10$ more?

This computer well mainly be used for these game's.
Sim City
Diablo 3
Shogun 2

Again thanks for the advice and double checking everything for me. Round 2 :sol:
