ive been getting some great and not so great prints from the local sams
club .

i do the editing in CS2 burn the jpegs to disc and print them from the
disc.

ive down loaded what i believe is there printer profile (fuji frontier
370)

from a website and have been doing the converting from raw in that work
space instead of adobe 1998 .

they still give me mixed results ,turnig off there enhancement feature
or turning it on

if if i were to get the spyder 2 pro studio would that get right on the
money with what i see on my monitor (working in there printer profile
work space ) what i should get from there printer ?.

Gene,

I think you need BOTH an accurate monitor profile AND an accurate printer
profile in order to match what you see to what you get.

I use the spyder 2 and have calibrated my monitor. It made a huge
difference.

So now at least I see what I am 'supposed' to see.

But printing is another bag. Colors are still off a bit with my i9100 using
Adobe photoshop CS but I have not custom profiled my printer and paper
(yet). I am using a profile I downloaded for a similar paper and it is
giving me better results than when I first started but still needs to be
'dialed in'.

A neighbor has access to a professional printer profiler device and I am
hoping he and I can generate a custom profile for my printer.

From what I understand the best results require custom profiling of the
specific printer / ink / paper combination. Use of generic profiles will not
tend to produce the best results.

For what it is worth, I had no luck with the printer profiling tools that
came with the spyder 2. The tools had me print out a color chart and then
scan it back into the machine to 'close the loop'. Obviously using my
scanner adds an entirely new set of variables to the color balancing act and
at the end of the process it didnt work for me. I tried 'tweaking' the
profile manually but my eye is no where near as good as a real colorimeter.

FYI if you have a LCD monitor (I do) and use the spyder 2 to calibrate it, I
think there might be some bugs in the software. (At least it acts a little
odd on my XP2 professional system).

When in the calibration process, just before it walks you through manually
setting R / G / B to get 6500K color temp, I get a warning that Spyder 2 did
not 'see' my monitor as an LCD. After much trial and error I discovered that
I needed to wait 10 or so seconds between prompts during the calibration
process. If I immediately clicked on 'continue' or 'next' spyder 2 thought I
had a CRT and all hell broke loose during the profiling.

spyder2 plus comes with printer calibration software [using your own scanner] --
along with a copy of elements 3.

hi there.

You should not be trying to use the Printer Profile as a Working Space
Profile. For Printing by a consumer type lab, you would probably be best
working in the sRGB Profile. Convert from RAW to that Profile. Do your
colour correction, and then use the printer's Profile in View - Proof
Colours to see what the final print will look like. (it will only be a
moderately accurate likeness).

Before spending more money on hardware, try using Adobe Gamma, to Calibrate
your Monitor. Also read up on colour Management, as you do not yet seem to
have got a grip on the basic principles. It is not rocket science, but there
are a few things you need to understand before you will get it to work.

Spyder 2 pro studio won't work with all monitors. It refused to work
with my notebook screen, so I had to send it back.
