Custom Desktop picture N/A

I have lost the ability to specify a new picture for my desktop.

The Browse option is there in Control Panel\Display\Desktop, but when I
select a new picture, it doesn't come up on the screen and allow to Apply.

Now I can only choose system pictures or one old personal picture which I no
longer want.

What happened? I didn't do anything strange before this occurred, and
restarting didn't help.

Trevor,
Have you tried opening a picture in IE and when open, RIGHT click it and
select "Set as Background"... Sometimes that will reset it.

Thanks, Burt.

That worked. The picture I right clicked and selected was used as the
Desktop. It was also added to the list available in Control
Panel\Display\Desktop, but it is interesting that the other method (Browse
and select) doesn't.

Ah well, the mysteries of XP!

I like the Alsaka website. My wife is keen on Alaska so I'll show it to her
and you may get some feedback. We live in Canberra, Australia by the way, but
some friends of ours have recently returned from a trip to Canada and Alaska
and they are rapt.

Have You put the pictures you're trying to get to into a new or different
Folder?
If so, go to that folder, right click one, choose "set as background" or
"wallpaper". Then change "'paper" again.
Check it from "browse" now. Do same, as desired, to each, if that's the
problem.
