I just have a question regarding the different options of AA that I've got available to me.
I've got an HD Radeon 6950, and am forcing AA for SWTOR using CCC. I run the game at 2048 x 1152.
Now, if I use Supersampling at x8, I start to notice a significant performace hit, so the most I can force out of it without compromising gameplay is x4 ( I do a lot of pvp so there's quite a bit of crap happening on the screen).
I've also noticed however, that if I use MSAA, I can crank it to x8 without any real problematic effects.
My question is: Which one is better?
Should I use Supersampling x4, or I should I use MSAA x8?
Also as a follow up, I'm really confused about the 'Box' vs 'Edge Detect' filter options. What exactly do they do, and what consideration should I give to these options with respect to the AA mode? is it a secondary consideration or does it have a visible impact?
I read the article and from what I gathered, the Edge Detect option is almost extraneous when it comes to Supersampling. It's mostly used in conjunction with MSAA, and even there, upping the multiplier with edge detect is never as good as a true increase in the sampling mode.
From what I gathered then, I'm just going to keep it at x4 Supersampling since it's the best mode overall, and I can run it with minimal performance loss.
I hope I've understood everything correctly. Lemme know if I'm mistaken somewhere.
