  2. Maybe, but it's not really much of an upgrade (200Mhz, so basically worthless) and it would have to be the non Black Edition (almost definitely. You couldn't OC anyway with that board).
  3. How about upgrade to AMD 2950 - would that work and would it make a difference?

I'm not aware of any 2950's. Can you elaborate?
  5. Apparently that CPU doesn't exist?

Not that I know of. There's a PowerEdge 2950, but that's just a totally different system.
  7. Whoops! - - I meant 9950.
  8. Oh, i was gonna say, are you imagining things...

I'm not sure if dell OEM boards support 125/140W CPUs...

I would doubt it (I don't know of ANY that do). My guess is 95W max.
  10. I have the mini-tower and it may support 125W CPUs. From http://en.community.dell.com/suppo [...] x#19947577:

The Optiplex comes in three models.

    Mini-tower (Model #DCSM),
    Desktop (Model #DCNE) and
    Small-form Factor (Model #DCCY).

Each has a different size power supply/Motherboard and only the mini- tower will support a 125w processor.
  11. By the way you link works but its got the 404 error....

Then it should work in your comp, just remember 125W CPUs generate more heat than 95W CPUs.
  12. Yeah, cooling may be a prob. I can get a 9950 for ~$75 on ebay; maybe I'll give it a try. The Optiplex has just gotten soooo slow!

    Thanks for the help!!

LOL, I have an Athlon XP 3000+ still running strong (not that I use it much, but it's a decent late 90's-early 2000's gaming system with its 6600GT).

I use it when i can't be bothered to carry my laptop around
    Seems to do the job.
  16. My wife's got a Dell Dimension 8400 (circa 2002) with a Pentium IV 3.2 GHz chip. I'm too cheap to get her a new one! It does what she needs it to, though.
  17. Well, its better than nothing i guess.
