Hey guys

Just ordered a reference Inno3D gtx580 1.5GB but I'm getting cold feet about buying it after hearing that it can get pretty hot and noisy under load...

How noisy is it?

Should I sell it and try to get a different version, like the msi twin frozr one, or even a hd7950 instead?

It might be important to say that I have a zalman z9 plus case with 8 case fans, and so have very good airflow.

However, I am planning on overclocking and so the cooling and noise issue of the graphics card may still be an issue... Does anyone have any experience of this?

thanks in advance

Yes get 7950, it's a better one compared to 580.

Ok if I do sell my 580, i'll get a 7950.

however, I still want to know how noisy the gtx580 is when playing intensive games... does anyone know?

Wait no, I thought you can cancel your order...

You can stay for it for a while, It will not overclock as good as Twin Frozer, but still at least can be increased. Even the temperatures can get hot still, I don't think it can get up to 85 Celsius.

lol i was thinking about cancelling but then the seller told me they had just dispatched it :p

With my good case cooling, I'm not that worried about temperatures, but its the fan noise I'm worried about to be honest

Yes it would be noisy as it's a stock cooler (reference design cooler), But I don't think it will be as noisy as you imagine. You are I think too worried about it, it should not be that kind of very very very very noisy. If you are not happy with the noise, you may sell it and replace it. You are in the fine side :) .

:)  thats reassuring :)  I am trying to sell it on ebay, and will hopefully break even or get a small profit! But if I am unsuccessful in selling, I will just keep it... At the end of the day, it is still a gtx580!

And I know what you mean - I've seen the comparison between the gtx580 and the gtx480... O.o definitely would not have been able to cope with that noise!
