Does anyone know the best software to make a slide show and burn this
to a DVD so that it will play on a standard domestic DVD player?
I am in the UK so would need to support PAL not just NTSC.
Have tried Roxio 7.5 but it seems v complicated. I need something
simple! :)
Thanks for any advice

I like Roxio EZ CD Creator V 6.0 better than later versions, but you
really don't need any special software other than whatever came with
your CD burner. With Win Xp, you don't even need that.
Just burn jpeg images onto a CD and they will play on most DVD players
less than 2 years old. Look at the specs on the DVD player. If it is
"jpeg compatible" it will play a slideshow of your images.

Hello,

You can try Slide Show Pilot:
http://colorpilot.com/slideshow.html
The program allows you to create the slide Show and then to play it on
a home DVD player.

Why not just make a video cd?All recent editions of nero can do this,
AFAIK.It would be an overkill to use a 4.7 GB DVD-R for this purpose, even a
700 MB CD-R is too much.PAL is a stadard everywhere in Europe except France
(SECAM) and I think some former East_block countries (their least concern I
think is their video format).

I have just started using ProShow Gold 2.5 from www.Photodex.com and
find it a lot of fun to play with. Incorporates a range of "Ken Burns"
effects (i.e. panning, rotating and zooming to still images) and can
include video clips (have not tried that). Has an adjustable time-line
(for images and audiot) and some 90 transitions. a bit price at USD$
69.95.

I use Pro Show. It is less expensive than Gold, about $39. Easy to add
photos, transitions and music.

I like Ulead's VideoStudio. I think they're up to version 9 but I've
only used 8. They have a 30 day free trial so its painless to make up
your own mind about it.

I've recently downloaded tons of demos for this and the one I like best is
Proshow gold. Another good free one is memories on tv.

I was looking for software to do this as well. After trying many
pieces of software, I have found SSMM 3.7 to be very good - Slide Show
Movie Maker. It is free, although donations are appreciated. There
can be very sophisticated effects and it is just a well thought out
software.

However, for better ease of use, I have just purchased Magix Photostory
2005. It is really fantastic. Photos, transitions, titles, music can
all be done easily. I found it far easier to use, for such purposes,
than big ticket items like video editing software -- I have downloaded
the Adobe Premiere Elements software, but found it rather complicated
for simple slide shows.

Really, Magix Photostory 2005 rocks. I strongly recommend it. They
have e-version available for download, including pre-licensing trial
download. I found it on a retail shop for less than the e-download
price, and so purchased the retail boxed version. I'm off to work on
it right now.

The non-Gold version doesn't do DVDs. That's the key diference.

Pro Show Gold is a fantastic program that I regularly use to great effect,
and HIGHLY recommend.

No question:

Pro Show Gold from www.photodex.com

Fantastic program.

I tried both ProShow Gold and Photo2VCD and neither would make a VCD
playable on my DVD player. Yes, the settings were correct.

I used Adobe Photoshop Album to create my slide show and it worked just
fine. I got error messages that some pictures would not be displayed
properly but they looked ok to me.

I'd still like a stand-alone program that WILL work however since
Photoshop Album requires that the photos be imported into the catalog
first--something I wouldn't want to do if I were making the VCD for
someone else.

That is more likely due to characteristics of your DVD player.
They work fine on mine.
