Looking to buy new laptop, need suggestions

Hi all. First thx for chking out my post and any/all help given. I'm looking to buy a new/refurbished laptop for my wife. I only need one with a decent screen for typing, as it will only be used to write on and possibly connect to our dsl so she can surf the web.

That being said I'm looking low end with a max price of around $450. Don't need a lot of ram, any special graphics chip, or preloaded w/any software as I've got all of the software covered. All the sites I've checked offer high end performance machines and the low end ones are still around 600-700 bones with features that aren't really needed for to write. Anyone with any suggestions or sites I could check out?

Probably looking for a diamond in the rough I guess, as I'd prefer something new or at least refurbished w/a warranty. Decent battery would be a plus, or the ability to have an extra. Still new to the laptop scene, and and all help much appreciated! TIA!
