Second GPU not working properly

I have 2 580's that i ran in SLI for a few weeks now no issues. Today while testing something in bf3 no issues. I close bf3 and when the chrome window started to come up my system froze. So I had to reformat because nothing i tried would get me back into windows. After the reformat I can not get my second card to work properly. It showed up as working a few times, but every time i attempted to enable SLI the nvidia program would lock up. Now the card wont show up at all and in the hardware monitor it says there is a problem with it.

Ive updated all my drivers, I cant take the second card out because its in a loop to my CPU. I may be able to test it in the first SLI slot. Other then this im lost. Any suggestions? Maybe running driver sweeper?

1. Uninstall all GFX drivers, reboot
2. Use reg cleaner (ie Ccleaner) to remove all things nVidia
3. Shut down machine.
4. Unplug and reseat card, all power and signal cables ....including SLI bridge
5. Start Windows....just say NO if it wants to install anything cause it found new hardware.
6. Install this (Win 7 -64 assumed)

Who is the card manufacturer and how long have you had the cards? What do you have for a power supply , how many watts? Ram , motherboard and cpu? It does help if we know your system.
Since you have water cooling it makes it more diffacult to try things but it would be interesting to see what happens if you put the second card in the first slot. So now the second card doesn't show up in the Nvidia control pannel? If you have reformatted the hdd then you have the same problem running driver sweeper isn't going to help. You may just have a defective card and that can happen at any time from one day to over a year.

1) Try each card, by itself in the top x16 slot.
2) Try each card, by itself in the bottom x16 slot.

This is to determine if it's the card, or the slot.

If things are fine after the above, it could be your Power Supply.

*I have no idea what you mean about not removing the 2nd card because it's in a "loop" to your CPU. You should be able to use either of your two SLI slots with just a single card installed.

Sorry was at work, I did manage to get the second card working again, but sli caused blue screen. I still need to try most of the suggestions, I think tonight though Ill do the ccleaner. The other stuff will have to wait until tomorrow when i have more time.

Ok I seem to have fixed my problem, CCleaner worked amazingly, I guess one of my driver files was corrupted and it didnt go away. After i ran CCleaner and installed the new drivers, which took like 1/4 of the time(prob because it didnt have any conflicts) The SLI showed up right away turned it on and no issues. Thanks everyone, hopefully everything will continue to work properly

apparently I spoke too soon, about a half hour in it bluescreened again. This time i checked the dump files and it sounds like either a bad driver, or bad memory location on harddrive, because after it blue screened it went through a bunch of file repair stuff and file removal from bad sectors.
