I dropped and damaged my Olympus Camedia C-1400 XL, and it is beyond
repair. I'm claiming on my insurance for this, the insurance company
originally offered an Olympus C370 claiming that it was equivalent to my
old 1400 XL
I disagreed with this and told them so, they are now offering an Olympus
C765 zoom. This seems much better and I think I will take it, but before
I do can anyone else advise please?

What kind of photography are you in ? The 765 is a compact ultra-zoom,
with a 8x or 10x zoom, but limited to 4MP if i'm not mistaken.

Actually the C370 (D535 in North Am.) is superficially very similar to
your old C1400/D620L spec-wise - it's a 3X zoom, 3.3 Mpixel camera.
You're right to complain, though, the C370 is a toy compared to the
C1400. Personally I'd want something more like the Oly C5500 Sport as a
reasonable replacement; the C1400 wasn't top of the line but it wasn't
a point-n-shoot either.
The C765 is a 10X zoom 3.9 Mpixel camera (xD also - you won't find any
cameras that use Smartmedia anymore); picture quality is supposed to be
good, and that camera series has a lot of fans. It's a bit bigger than
the C370, actually about 1/3 larger, but it's a better camera, and
still half the weight of the C1400. It's not quite what the C1400 was
all about, but you might just like it - it's still a point-n-shoot, but
it's a really GOOD point-n-shoot.

Might also want to consider asking for the cash equivalent if possible and
then adding to it to upgrade. Olympus C-7070 probably not too far away from
the budget. Smaller zoom capability, but very nice camera by all accounts.

Thanks to all for the advice, after looking in to things I will settle
for the C765.
