Help & Advice for a new Gaming System

Hey Guys,

I've been reading TH for a long time now but I've never actually posted. I'm in the market for a new gaming system because my current system just doesn't cut it anymore. I have around £1000 to spend and the build must include a decent quallity monitor because my six year old Samsung is really showing its age.

I have been looking at the Alienware x51 top spec model thats bundled with the Alienware OptX monitor (although I can upgrade the monitor to an UltraSharp U2410 for £45 but I don't know if this is worth it). I can get this system for £990 with my discount which seems like a good price.

What would you guys recommend??

You could go with an Intel i3 or i5 processor.

An LGA 1155 or LGA 1156 motherboard.

And a GTX500 Series graphics card.

4GB or 8GB of probably at least 1600MHz memory.

LGA 1155..dont go with older technology like 1156.

I'd recommend 8GB of ram

Thanks for the replies guys, I'm more interested in a Pre build over building it myself if I'm totally honest. Does anyone have an opinion about the x51 system?

Or should I hold on and see what the new nVidia 600 series mid/high end cards are like?
