Hey!

So, I just built myself a brand new computer. I have an:

- ASUS P8P67 Deluxe motherboard
- 16GB of Corsair Vengeance RAM
- 1024 MB Nvidia GeForce 550ti Graphics Card
- Intel Core i5 2500k 3.3ghz Processor
- 750w Rosewill PSU
- 1TBWestern Digital hard drive
- 500GB WD external hard drive that i converted into an internal hard drive
- a Rosewill pci wireless LAN card

I built it so that I can have a solid media machine. But the problem is that it lags for some reason. Whenever I play a song either on iTunes or on Spotify. The audio does a weird "bwaahh" sound like it has to catch up or something. I could have no programs open besides the one playing music and it will still do it. And it has frozen up on me like 6 times since I've had it. It's been 9 days since I've built it.

I've updated the drivers, tried less RAM, Played with the BIOS settings, turned off almost all the extra settings I could think of. Any advice would awesome, because I'm about to shoot this thing. lol

Thank you, and I would be happy contribute any further pertinent information you might need.

Only music, and not in other programs or softwares like youtube, or games? When you say 'frizen up' do you mean the whole computer, or the sound?

Any sound on the computer makes the noise and the whole system freezes up. I've tried updating the graphics card drivers and the sound card drivers.....

Okay, I have an idea about what's going on, but I need a little more info. Does this happen only when you're playing some kind of sound, or does it happen regardless? Is there a sound when it freezes only when there is currently a sound currently playing, or is it silent when there's no sound when it freezes? Have you overclocked your processor? Have you monitored your temperatures? (if not, get pcwizard to do so)
And finally, does this issue happen at any time during operation, or more often under load?

ok so, right now i'm pretty sure the audio isn't the only thing that is lagging. I think the whole computer is lagging. And it gets worse when I overclock. I know this because sometimes if I move mouse it stops for a second and then reappears where it would have been had it not stopped.

When the computer freezes, whatever sound was playing at that moment gets stuck, along with my mouse and keyboard and everything else, and I am forced to hold the power button down to reset the computer. If there is no sound playing and the computer freezes then I don't here anything.

My computer is more prone to freeze up when it is doing alot of stuff. I checked the temps and everything seems to be operating at a good temperature. I can monitor the temps from the BIOS and it says everything checks out. I reinstalled Windows yesterday and moved some of the RAM around today, both to no avail.

Monitoring temps form the bios isn't very useful, since there's no load on the processor or other components.
It sounds like you have a bad overclock, or if you have not overclocked, it's a bad cpu.
What are the numbers you have, temps included while working on the computer when it freezes.

I decided to just ship the processor back. Newegg should hopefully be sending me a replacement.

Thanks for the help! I'll post again when I find out if it works or not.
