APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: Any time, does not matter

BUDGET RANGE: ~$500

USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: Games such as Skyrim, TERA, GW2, Diablo 3 [in 5 years]

CURRENT GPU AND POWER SUPPLY: EVGA GTX 470 & Antec NeoPower 650

OTHER RELEVANT SYSTEM SPECS: i5 750 OC'd @3.5GHz w/ a Freezer 7 cooler, EVGA P55 SLI mobo, 6GB Ripjaws 1600 DDR3, 2 SSD's and a 7200 hdd

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: Newegg & Amazon COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: USA

PARTS PREFERENCES: Only ever used Nvidia, have always heard bad things about ATI drivers but willing to try them

OVERCLOCKING: Yes SLI OR CROSSFIRE: No

MONITOR RESOLUTION: 1920x1080, dual monitor (single monitor gaming)

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: So I'm currently running a 470GTX with a slight OC. Basically I'm wondering how much of an increase will I see if I upgrade to a 580 or a 7xxx series (or whatever else you might suggest)? Would I be bottlenecking myself with the i5? I'm not really wanting a full mobo/cpu upgrade, so if that would be a limiting factor then I can just hold off. If an upgraded PSU is needed then that's fine. I do NOT want SLI. The 470 is deafening as it is, would not want 2 of them. ;)

Just any tips on what you think would be a good upgrade path, and how much of a performance increase I would get, would be very appreciated!

Just how much of a difference do you think I'd see compared to my current 470?

You can overclock the 7950 to match or surpass those fps frames.

hd 7950 will be better one to get there is not a big difference between those two once you overclock it will perform as an hd 7970 or little bit low save up some money for other things and get hd 7950.:)

you will see substantial gains from a 470 to a 7950, you can get one with a custom cooler which can oc well over 20% over stock. The card uses a lot less power and is a lot quieter than the 580 and runs a lot cooler even with a OC,

the AMD drivers are good, only time they really mess up is when new games have bad crossfire performance which AMD is slow to patch sometimes.

Yeah, approx. 70% more performance if you upgrade to a 7950.

it is worth if you upgrade to 7970 but no 7950...
you will get 150% of raw performance to 7970 from 470, but it is depends on your configurations...
Because 470 raw performance its equal to 560 ti...
And thats card will offer to you more energy efficient...
Higher OC capability...

Thanks everyone for the suggestions! After looking around it seems like the 7950 will be nearly as good at the 7970, especially with an overclock. Now my question is if anyone has a particular favorite?

That is the one I'm focusing on right now, any other suggestions?

EDIT: And if you really think a 7970 would be -that- much better, can you provide me with your favorite card?
