Will intel core 2 duo e8500 3 16 ghz run windows 7 64 bit

I have a Dell Optiplex 760 purchased in June 2009. Processor is an Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 running at 3.16 Ghz. I am currently running XP Professional, but want to upgrade to Windows 7 Professional (or Ultimate) 64 Bit. Will this PC run the 64 bit version of Windows 7 ? My main aim is increase the amount of RAM that I can effectively use. Appreciate any advice given.

  1. Yeah that CPU should have no trouble running 64-bit Windows. The Intel graphics are of course a little iffy but it should be ok for windows areo, just don't game with it :D .
  2. Thanks megamanx00, very much appreciate your help !!
  3. Once again my thanks to megamanx00 for the help. He obviously knows his CPU's, this message is being sent on my old PC which is now successly running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit version. Everything seems to be happening a lot quicker than when the PC was running XP Pro 32 bit. Should have bitten the bullet and upgraded earlier.
