I hope this is the right forum. I didn't see anything that looked more appropriate.
My problem is: I upgraded from an old P4 WinXP to a Win7 64 bit box. Everything went smoothly except my scanner. It is an old Epson Expression 836xl. It is a scsi scanner and originally came with an Adaptec 2903b controller. There are no 64 bit drivers for this card so I bought an Adaptec 39160 and an Adaptec 29160 (both NIB cards) The 2903 used a DB25 connector on the card the scanner has a CN50 connector. The 29160 has an HD50 external connector and the 39160 has a VHD68 connector. I tried the 29160 first with a HD50 to DB25 scsi adapter. The card installed correctly and the scanner is recognized by Windows and the scan software (Hemrick VueScan). When I try to scan the scanner bulb moves about halfway and stops and the software locks up. I contacted Hemrick and he thought it was a cabling problem. I picked up a VHD68 to CN50 cable and tried the Adaptec 39160, same result. Reconnecting the scanner to the old box and it works fine using the same software. I really can't afford to buy a new large format graphic arts scanner so I want this thing to run. I know people are doing it. Any thoughts?
