Building my first PC. Graphic Design/Gaming

Hey guys, this is my first time in the forum and well, i want to build a pc for my personal use. I’ve been doing some research to make the best choices for my budget which is 1000$ (more or less). Some friends advised me to buy a Mac. But I’m not sure and I really want to make the best investment.

I’m looking for a powerful pc, for video and picture editing and graphic design (I’m a design student) but I’m also interested in some gaming. I’m also a little concern about how long it will take for the pc to become obsolete, u know in terms of new techs coming up and stuff.

So far I’ve came up with this so far (need some help with the rest of the components):

Intel Core i7-600k (is hyper-threading really needed?).
4 Corssaire RAM (16gb)
Axus Z Genie motherboard
Nvdia Gforce-540 graphic card (the one recommended here)

  1. Hello op

if you play games like bf3 and usually like to increase the settings then you will need to increase the gpu.

Uf not then amd will give you the best bang for buck gaming.

Wait for ive bridge and is bound to release this month or early next month.

    I would suggest

    intel i7 3770k
    asrock z77 pro4
    Sapphire hd 6870
    Corsair vengence 2x8gb 1600mhz ddr3 ram
    seasonic 520w 80+ gold psu.
    Cm haf 912
    windows 7 professional
    seagate baracuda 500gb 7200rpm hdd
    asus 24x dvd writer

I would go for the 2600k, IB is not an upgrade from SB.

Thanx man, yeah i think the 2600k is a pretty good choice, but im having trouble making a decision about other part, my budget is kinda low and i still need to buy the monitor. But yeah, so far the 2600k is my choice.

First GTX 480 and now IB not being an upgrade? Do you have any evidence for your claims?
