You may want to check with the computer manufacturer to ensure that there aren’t any hard drive controller drivers that are necessary to install Windows 7. Some manufacturers require a separate controller driver to be loaded in order to install Windows 7.

Also, you may find the Microsoft Knowledge Base article You cannot select or format a hard disk partition when you try to install Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 helpful.
