Hey,

I have been putting this built together for quite a while now and I'm finally about to end my project.

Currently :

Case: Coolermaster Haf 922 Mid Tower - http://www.techspot.com/articles-info/165/images/Image_00.jpg
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H - http://www.pcglobe.ca/catalog/images/GA-MA785GM-US2H.jpg
Processor : AMD Athlon II X4 640 - http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/31Fi6fF0o8L._SL500_AA300_.jpg
Video Card : NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 1GB - http://www.rage3d.com/reviews/video/evga_gtx_460_sc//pics/intropic.jpg
Hard Disk : Western Digital WD6400 (640GB) - http://www.boendiy.com/image/pro_img/Western-Digital-WD6400AALX.jpg
Memory : 2.5GB
PSU : 600 watts rocketfish

You may wonder why 2.5GB of RAM well, long story short my motherboard memory slot fried along with 500mb of RAM and this is why I'm here.

I want to buy a motherboard but, i don't want this to happen again with my new RAMs so i was wondering how could i prevent this from happening?

Here's my final upgrade :

Memory : Corsair Vengeance 8GB 2X4GB DDR3-1600 - http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=11180BD2750
Motherboard : ASUS M5A88-V Evo ATX AM3+ DDR3 - http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=10530BD4320
PSU : OCZ ModXStream Pro 600W ATX - http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=13220AC8686

Everything is compatible but, is there something i should worry about here?

Thanks

Shouldn't have too. Everything looks solid. The video card usually only pulls 250 Watts under load, unless you overclock it? And the cpu only pulls about 100 watts, unless you overclock it? So that should leave you plenty of room. Good job on changing out the psu, that's probably what took out the memory, unless you overclock it? lol So unless you're planning on putting in a second video card down the road you should have no problems with the upgrade- I took your word for it that everything was compatible.

Nah I'm not overclocking anything here, it would be a waste if i ended up frying something else in the process.

I don't need more power anyway, this build can handle almost if not all games at max settings and will last at least 3 years before i have to buy today's top hardware for 1/5 of it's current price.

Setting : Maximum
Resolution : 1920x1080
Games : League of Legends, Sins of a Solar Empire, SimCity 4, Diablo III Beta, Diablo II, Garry's Mod, Counter-Strike 1.6, PCSX2 (PS2 emulator, very power hungry ), N64 emulator, PS1 emulator, Wii/Game Cube emulator (Even more power hungry than the PS2 emulator) , The Sims 3, StarCraft 2

I don't really like modern games, Graphics > Gameplay logic isn't really my thing.
