Hello

If I am gaming on a i5 2500k series cpu with a monitor resolution of 1920x1080, is there any need to go past a 560Ti gpu for gaming with the games that are out now? How about a 570?

it all depends how enthusiast you are, yes there are some games that not even 580 can't handle by itself, if you want to play with max aa and all graphics improvements DX11 tesselation, physx, etc...

if you are saying about only 1 card, without SLI, i think the 580 is the only one that can max out MOST of games at 1080p without 3D Vision.

Yea it really depends on how much you care about graphics. When BF3 came out and I saw the difference between the PS3 and PC versions, I immediately built a computer and haven't touched my PS3 for games ever since. I may be a bit obsessed...

I decided on two 560Ti's in SLI which is roughly equivalent to a single 580, and at the time it was a bit cheaper to go with dual 560s. However, if I were to buy a GPU today I would go with a 580. More headroom. You can always grab another and run em in SLI whenever you see fit.

Well if you are not playing games that are really demanding and you will not decide to upgrade from 1920x1080, you are fine. You can play almost all the game in 1920x1080 in high with 560 ti, but not ultra or maxed out without 3D Vision. If you are not happy, you can even upgrade to 560 ti SLI to get performance like 580. I guess you are in the right to take 560 ti.

i have a 560 ti playing at 1920x1080 and i tell you some games i am not able to play at maximum settings at solid fps, when i mean solid is even at the laggiest parts of the game keep over 30-40 even if normally is at 90fps or more...

By tweakin i mean lower a little AA, Multisampling, and other stuff to keep at good framerates.

Batman Arkham city need tweaks.
Battlefield 3 need tweaks.
Skyrim need tweaks.
Shogun 2 need tweaks.
metro 2033 need tweaks.
Crysis 2 with dx11 patch need tweaks.

and more... so even with 580 you will face tweaking problems in some games if you want to play with solid fps.

Totally agree with you there, got the 560ti SLI myself and sold off my PS3 as I prefer to play the games on PC.
The 580 may not as be as fast as 560ti SLI , but getting one and then getting another later is a much better choice if you really want premium performance.

I found this article pretty interesting: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/02/07/hard-choices-graphics-cards/

The writer here says that a gtx ti 560 448 cores is as far as you should go to game at 1920*1080

yes and no, it is really better than one 580, but you will be running in sli, so besides the need of a good motherboard x16 slots and a good psu with enough power for both card, sometimes it is cheaper go for a single 580.

Also be aware that you will be running in sli so there are lots of problems that you may step into besides the fact that some games will work perfectly and other games will not work properly forcing you to use only one gpu.

But if you know what you are doing and keep your drivers always up to date etc, you can go for 560ti sli that will worth it.

agreed, very good video card indeed, and unless you are enthusiast it is more than ok to play every game out there with 30fps;

I would purchase a 570 from EVGA and use their step-up program for when the new series of Nvidia GPUs comes out next quarter. You get all the value from your original purchase as long as you upgrade the GPU within 90 days. Plus, if they get delayed, you can always upgrade to a 580. They have a 2.5 GB card that is pretty hardcore - my buddy is using it and I was impressed by the single GPU graphics on BF3. Here's a link to that card and step-up:

I am planning on purchasing a 680 once they release later this year - here's the roadmap leak if you missed it:

Just my two bits...

I bought a 580 when I built my PC and am very happy. If you're looking for consistent 60fps @ 1080 then you'll want one, but you still may have to adjust the AA a bit unless your going to OC the 2500k which I guess you are. Also take note that the 580 will require a 750w PSU which is more expensive, but you will want even higher if you plan to get two 580'2 one day.
