I sometimes need to use a PCI network card instead of my built in LAN. Once in a while the network cards are not seen. Or maybe one is seen. I use 2. Can anybody shed some light on why this may be happening? One day it works great. The next they are invisible. Sometimes I restart and poof - its there. But today I've restarted several times and nothing. I even removed them and then tried one in a different PCI slot. Nothing.

It could be capacitor aging. Have a look at the capacitors all over your motherbd for bulging, leaks... Examples can be found at

I first notice my raid card would sometimes not be found and then found the bad capacitors. This was years ago but I assume if your using PCI then this is an older system.
