More about 4170 gaming
  1. They are about equal as far as a gaming processor: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gaming-cpu-review-overclock,3106-5.html
But the i7 is a true quad core.
  2. wait I'm confused how isn't a 4170 a true quad core? Doesn't it have four cores? I mean if it doesn't then I wanna go for a new CPU. It really caught my eye because it was a 3 tier for a pretty low price.
  3. Do not buy fx series AMD for gaming. They do not perform better than core i3s. But a core i5 3rd gen

It has to do with how the Buldozer modules 'share' resources. Read this article for an explanation: http://www.maximumpc.com/article/features/bulldozer_benchmarked_and_analyzed_amd_back_game

Four integer cores, but only two execution cores, so it performs nothing like a true quad core should, or would. That, combined with Bulldozer's dreadfully slow architecture makes for a pretty weak CPU.

It's decent enough for gaming, but that's about it.

In fact, the i3-2100 dual core generally equals or beats it in gaming: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/fx-4100-core-i3-2100-gaming-benchmark,3136.html
  7. So would the 8150 be a true quad core then? After reading the article clutchc posted it sounds like amd's version of hyper threading except windows 7 doesn't know what to do with the extra cores. I don't think I'm gonna go with this CPU then. I'm a little sad because it sounded like one of the best CPU's for the money. But it seems like it is essentially an amd i3. I think I'm gonna go with a i5 2380p. Yes I know it doesn't have integrated but from what I see it will perform about as well as a 2500k and I'm reading some people are able to overclock it pretty high. I really don't need integrated though, I have 2 560ti's it think that should work pretty well.
