Dell 8100 xps studio psu upgrade.

I have a Dell 8100 xps studio with a nvidia 260gtx gpu. I want to upgrade to an nvidia 680 but i need to upgrade my psu first. Does anyone have dimensions on what will fit for a psu? Anyone with a dell 8100 upgrades their psu, what one did you put in? I am looking at adding a 700w psu to my system.

  1. What CPU do you have? It might be a bottleneck for the GTX 680.
  2. I have a i7-860
  3. Alright, that's plenty for a GTX 680.

What is your budget for your power supply?

You only need a 600W at most.
  4. My budget is really any price, I want to make sure i know the psu will fit.

Yes, any normal size ATX PSU will fit.

    Width: 7.3" (18.5 cm)
  6. just ATX or atx/btx, atx12v,atx12v/eps12v etc? I am looking at the CORSAIR HX Series HX750.

That PSU will be just fine (it's normal size ATX, BTW).

You don't NEED 750W though, a good 550-600W unit will do.

To large for the case, you want something 160mm ( 6.3" ) or smaller

That's not too large at all. Same width as the ones you linked, actually.

So yes OP, the HX750 is still just fine.

Width isn't the problem, length is

Well that makes sense then, you didn't clarify that.

Can you tell me where you can see what length it needs to be though? I trust you, I just want to know for myself for future reference.

I'm guessing it has something to do with drive bays or what not, but the case should allow for a longer PSU, dimensions wise, it looks like. 17.9" is pretty deep. I mean, even with the HX750, that leaves 10+ inches of clearance.

@ OP: Either one of the units that delluser1 linked will be plenty and are great units.
