Additional Comments: I just want a fast functional computer, nothing fancy in terms of looks or quietness. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. This is my first build. I don't know if I need a GPU since Ivy Bridge will have a better integrated graphics. Also do I need a different sound card? Thanks for the help.

You really don't need a RAM fan. I'd also not recommend spending the money for a 240GB SSD. You'll likely be fine with a 120GB or 180GB SSD. I'd also swap those Caviar Greens for a couple Caviar Blacks. If you're not gaming, an integrated GPU will be fine. You don't need a sound card, since all motherboards these days integrate one.

Intel SSD 520 120GB - http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820167093
WD Caviar Black 1TB 64MB cache - http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136533

If you are not going to play games or do a lot of rendering I'd say your mobo, PSU, and full tower are way, way overkill. With no video card you can do a quality 500W (probably even less), $140 mobo (maybe $180 if you're overclocking), and a reasonable mid-tower case. You're still saving money over the combo deals.

Also agree with above to downsize the SSD and go with the Black drives. Huge SSD is not needed for your stated needs.

If you want to spend right at that amount it's up to you but can definitely get a great system for a lot less.

I'm not a big fan of Intel SSDs because they still use Sandforce - and that's far more prone to issues and errors than a Marvell drive like the Crucial M4, Plextor PX-M3, or Samsung 830 would.

You're not going to notice any sort of difference having a 5900 RPM drive or a 7200RPM drive as your secondary if you've got a strong SSD as your primary. Anyone who says otherwise most likely doesn't know what they're talking about. Even though the shortages are starting to go away you're still paying huge premiums for the WD Caviar Black drives - stick with the green and put that money in the GPU.

I definitely agree about the RAM fan - those are a huge waste of money.

As far as the i7-3770K goes - it's only a slight difference between that and the i5-2500K - the benchmarks are out: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ivy-bridge-benchmark-core-i7-3770k,3181.html

Here's a sub-$1K build I would suggest:

Case: Fractal Design Arc MIDI - $99.99
PSU: Seasonic M12II 620W - $89.99
Motherboard: Asrock Z77 Extreme 4 - $169.99
CPU: 3.30GHz Intel Core i5-2500K - $219.99
Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo - $34.99
RAM: 8GB G.Skill Ripjaw X 1600Mhz 1.5V - $46.99
HD: 1TB Samsung Spinpoint F3 - $109.99
Optical: Lite On DVD Burner - $17.99
Video Card: Power Color Radeon HD 7850 - $249.99

Total: $1,039.98

A little bit over budget but all parts are solid - if you're willing to increase the budget to $1200 then I would include an SSD and upgrade your video card to a 7870.

Awesome guys thanks for the responses I will definitely take all that into consideration, especially the lined out sub $1000 build. I will probably increase to $1200 to include the SSD for the speed. Thanks again, you guys have been most helpful.
