I have this Intel VC820 MOBO that has 2 RIMM sockets. I am looking for some RDRAM sticks to put in. Either one or two. I'd like to get 128MB in this board. Intel wants $25 bucks just to talk to them. Can somebody point me in the right direction or know where and how much I can get some.

I suggest http://www.pricewatch.com. You can get 64MB modules for $35 each or 128MB modules for $79 each.

RDRAM memory modules are all standardized. You don't have to worry about the issues you would have had with SDRAM. The only difference is in the rated bandwidth, such as PC600 and PC800. Get the PC800.

I'm dumb founded on this. They are 168 pin, evrywhere I look they are 186 pin? Will the 186 pin mods work?

Thanks

Isn't 168 pins SDRAM?

SDRAM has 168 pins. RDRAM and DDR (actually, RDRAM is a form of DDR) are 184 pins.

I could be mistaken here but does the "VC" in vc820 stand for virtual channel? If so this board would take a special kind of SDRAM memory.

A little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing!

Ok, still lost. Here's the specs right from the Intel Desktop Board Book.

Intel Desktop Board VC820 MEMORY MODULE REQUIREMENTS

Two memory sockets support RIMMS containing Rambus DRAM (RDRAM) devices. The desktop board supports these RIMM features:

2.5 V, 168-pin modules with gold plated contacts

Memory bus frequencies: 400MHz, 356MHz, and 300MHz

Modules densities: 64MB, 96MB, 128MB, and 256MB

Maximum memory: 512MB when using 128Mbit technology RDRAM

Memory with Serial Presence Detect (SPD) EEPROM

ECC or non-ECC memory.

This is right from the book. What can I use? I'll admit I'm an idot on this. New to the computer tech business.

Where can I find these mem sticks. Kinda confused everyplace I look it's 186-pin?

Thanks, John

Your motherboard supports PC600, PC700, and PC800 RDRAM. Grab a couple 128MB sticks.
