dial up modem

A dial up modem- Ok in device manager-all the AT commands are there-can ping 127.0.0.1.
ph line is good. works to a phone.
AOL (cough-cough) is ISP
dont know manufact of modem-56k v90
W98 2nd ed
go to go online and get a --no dial tone-- error.


The funny part-- after trying to get online, all the phones go dead, no tone.
reboot PC- unplug jack to modem to get dial tone back to phone.

any ideas besides a new modem?

sounds like something is shorting in the modem. You could use a friends modem to check in your computer or take your modem over there to see if it works.
