Do you have a capture card already? Capture cards will usually always come with some sort of capture software. What kind do you have?

if you want to learn about digital video then snel&wilcox are the best. You will need high math to understand it.

If you are looking for a simple editing program then look at www.stoik.com for VideoMan. Good program that you will not have to sell an arm and leg for.
Note that lot's of cards are coming with free software. you might not need to buy it.

When looking for a video capture /Editing card the first thing to look at is your Video camera. This will tell you what connectors you will need. Good places to look for cards are Pinnacle and Canopus.
I recomend ask some one that can also show you how to edit to help you in getting and installing a card since it's some times a problem to people that not used to work with Video cards.

Finaly,
Look at the Pinnacle DV500+
This card have analog (RCA) connectors as well as digital DV.
It edit in real time. Much more fun to edit this way.
It have Hardware exceleration for exporting to various formats like DVD and CD. also come with a authoring program for it.
It come with a Full version of Adobe Premier 6 for editing. This program alone cost more then the card.
New drivers to support XP has just been released.
