Can PSU Blow if GFX Card is not inserted properly in PCI

Hello all,

I was wandering if a power supply can blow if the GFX card is not inserted properly in the PCI-E Slot

I wouldn't think so, no. If the GPU wasn't properly seated, it just wouldn't work and therefore shouldn't draw any power (or short anything out).

What do you mean by "not inserted properly"?

Yeah, that's what I thought you meant, but I wasn't sure.

Anyway, my original comment on it stands. Not properly inserted just means that the card shouldn't even be active to be able to do any harm.

I suppose it's possible, in one of those strange "never really happens" occurrences, but I really don't think so.

What made you ask this question? Did your PSU die?

A PSU Blew in windows loading screen in an old system and the only thing that was messed with previously was the GFX card.

Yeah, I doubt the GPU not being correctly installed/seated had anything to do with that. Just a coincidence.

The system presented some problems and was not always turning on when pressing the power button ,after the RAM have been checked w memcheck stick by stick

Yep, that sounds like the PSU was failing and about to die anyway.
