Radeon HD 5770 still a viable upgrade in 2012?

Hello everyone,

I was looking to upgrade my graphics card sometime in the near future and I found this one from ncix.ca, which I think is quite a good deal. Basically, it's a reference 5770 with a free copy of Dirt 3 for $105 (w/ $30 MIR) = $75...?

I'm not an intense gamer, but I would definitely like the option to game moderately (on 22"ish 1080p HD monitor perhaps). The 5770 seems to compare quite well with the 6770, so I thought I'd consider it for it's low price. The only worries I'm having is that it is an old generation card, and I'm not sure decent reference coolers are...

**If this is NOT a good idea, I've also been considering these two 6850's. They seem to be good deals with the non-reference coolers + factory overclock. Let me know which one you think is better...? IceQ X or Windforce ?

Any input is very much appreciated, thanks!

Thanks for the reply

Everyone keeps recommending the 6870 to me... is the extra cost REALLY worth it over the 6850OC?

Also, I failed to mention that I would be running my system off a Corsair CX430V2 PSU. I would like to spend as little as possible so I probably will not upgrade my power supply for the time being... I will probably buy a new computer when the opportunity arises.

The MAX TDP for:
5770 is 108W
6850 is 127W
6870 is 151W

I was a little worried about the power issue, but many people told me a 6850 would be able to run fine, so I was thinking a 5770 would be a safer bet. The 6870 looks a little risky for a 430W 80PLUS PSU...

Should probbly get a better psu butt a 6870 is the better choice the little bit of more cash for a lot more performance im going to get one im running on a hd 4850 thats running every 2011-2012 game on ultra smoothly but the fps is around 30 so i am upgrading to a 6870 as well. Was also thinking of a 6850 but the 6870 is much better.

for cx 430 hd 6850 will be the perfect choice because hd 6870 needs 2 pcie connector and your psu has only one the only fact is that ur psu has enough power for hd6870 but the pcie connector is only one.

I use a XFX HD 5770...I play Skyrim on full settings and I also play BF BC2, crysis, Black ops, and modern warfare...they all are stunning on that card...but I guess it depends on your resolution too..I play at 1366x768
