I put together a pretty inexpensive build. I bought an AMD Sempron 145 (using stock cooling). Since the mobo supports unlocking, why not try it? It unlocked successfully and Windows XP booted. I Prime95ed it for 45 minutes without issue. However, I have some application issues now. Google Chrome frequently crashes and appears distorted/blotchy/low quality. I use CineBench to test how much performance gain I've gotten from unlocking/overclocking. It refuses to run, launches and results in an ACCESS_VIOLATION (0x0000005) error, or launches and click the CPU benchmark and results in the same error. Aside from that, nothing else seems wrong. It seems quite likely to me that the unlock is to blame, but I haven't seen or heard anything like this. I mean if it stresses well shouldn't everything else work fine?
Update: Rebooted PC. Started loading desktop, screen blanked, came back, icons displayed but not taskbar. Eventually froze. Hit reset switch and PC won't boot (no signal to monitor). Guess I'll have pop the CMOS battery.
Update: After defaulting the CMOS settings, everything is normal again.
