AMD FX 8150 overheating

I've just finished building my first computer, but after afew minutes of idling on my desk top I've noticed my FX 8150, which is not OCed, has gone from 40c, to almost 61c under only a slight load. When playing someone like battle field, the CPU temp spikes to 70c - 80c, and with only Skype and Firefox it runs at 54c - 61c.

I'm currently using the cooling device that came with the CPU and have reapplied the TIM several times, but I'm still having high temp reports from both my Bios and SpeedFan 4.46.

  1. How are you applying the TIM?

I've been using Antec Formula 7, using the small application tool that comes in the package to put a thin, complete covering over my CPU.
  3. And cleaning between applications I assume?
  4. Yeah, before I reapply the TIM I swab down the CPU and heat sink with alcohol and cotton swabs.
  5. And how are you measuring temps?
  6. Sorry, spotted it now. Is that CPU temp or core temps?
  7. I beleave it's the CPU temp, but I could be mistaken.
  8. From what I can see AI Suit is purely giving me the CPU temp.
  9. Core temps could potentially be lower. I can't find off hand a review with typical temps but it might be worth hunting one down.
  10. I'll try to track that down while I wait for CoreTemp to install.
