Upgrade processor

Hello,
i want to upgrade my intel celeron 420 @ 1.6ghz but dont have a clue whhat is compatible??
motherboard specs are..
Acer
Model F671CR (Socket 775)
Version R01-C0

To get a good, more future proof and noticeable upgrade you should (must) change your motherboard. LGA 775 is getting a bit old now and the only thing that looks compatible on newegg is this : http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115054CVF
Now for 310$ you could also get an i5 and a good motherboad but that depends on your budget so with more information we would be able to help you better.

Any upgrade that doesn't include a more modern motherboard (and DDR3 RAM) wouldn't be worth it. What is your budget and what are you looking to do with the computer?

If this is an Acer prebuilt, you're probably looking at other issues as well, including power supply upgrade. Basically a completely new rebuild.

Not only psu upgrade, most of the prebuild pc have custom cases that have a lot of limits like X number of 3.5 bay, X maximum lenght for motherboard, no space for decent gpu, really bad airflow etc. So he/she will also probably need another case. So the upgrades so far would be : case + mobo + cpu + psu... this is pretty much looking like a new build.
So i totally agree with the idea of a new custom build and you could also recycle some parts from your old pc like hdd, cd/dvd writers, fans (if any) or you could also just sell it and buy some more decent parts.
